Itinerary
Day 1
Sydney to Bangkok
At 7 AM at Sydney International Airport, gather at the TG counter to complete check-in procedures. At 10 AM, take TG 476 direct to Bangkok. Arrive in Bangkok at 3:10 PM. After receiving the pick-up, proceed to the hotel for check-in. Enjoy a dinner featuring fish head and abalone at the Chinatown Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel (5* or similar) and meet with your Hong Kong group members (D).

Day 2
Bangkok/Palo/Thumpon
Embark on an extraordinary journey aboard a scenic plane to take in the majestic Himalayas (Jujuyang) and marvel at the magnificent scenery of snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will smoothly pass through immigration and customs checks. To show your warm welcome, your guide will greet you with a traditional ceremonial scarf and then escort you to the hotel in Thimphu.
We made a brief stop near the Taktsang Monastery to take some unforgettable photos. The drive from Paro to Thimphu, the charming capital of Bhutan, takes about an hour. This journey follows a scenic and winding road along the Paro Chhu River, eventually reaching the junction of the two rivers and then continuing up along the Wangchhu River to Thimphu.
Upon arrival at the hotel, you will be greeted with traditional tea. After completing the check-in procedures, take some time to relax and recharge your energy.
After lunch, embark on your cultural exploration with a visit to the Buddhist Art Gallery, where you can admire exquisite artworks and interact with an artist master. Next, head to the Royal Bhutan Textile Institute to experience the rich heritage of Bhutan’s weaving and interact with traditional artisans. Then, explore the authentic Bhutan Handicraft Market, showcasing a wide range of authentic handicrafts. Next, visit the vibrant Centennial Farmers’ Market, Kachatom, where you can discover fresh local produce and experience the bustling atmosphere. Next, visit the Bhutan Post Museum, where you can even create your own personalized postage stamp as a unique souvenir. Enjoy the night view of Taktsicho Dzong, a magnificent medieval fortress temple. It is the seat of the Bhutanese government and houses the King’s throne room, as well as the summer residence of His Holiness the Rinpoche (Chief Monk). Enjoy dinner at the four-star Tarminka Resort in Thimphu and spend the night there. (B.L.D)
Day 3
Timbuktu/Dordonya/Tangier Monastery/National Memorial Tower
After breakfast at your hotel, drive to Dodoni and then embark on a scenic walk along lush forest trails to Tanggo Monastery. This monastery sits atop a mountain, offering magnificent views of the forested valley below and glimpses of other Buddhist sites in the mountains. After lunch, visit the historic National Memorial Tower, built to commemorate Bhutan’s late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk to pray for world peace. Next, head up to Kunzalp Lhond to view the magnificent statue of the Buddha Shakyamuni and stroll leisurely through the tranquil Kunzalp Lhond Nature Park that surrounds it. You will also have the opportunity to receive divine blessings in the temple chamber of the Buddha Temple. Dine and spend the night at the four-star Timalka Resort in Thimpu (B.L.D).
Day 4
Punakha/Duchula Pass/Drukgyal Dzong Temple/The Himalayas/Punakha Dzong
After breakfast, depart for Punaka, the former capital of Bhutan. On the way, you will pass the Chhu La Pass (altitude 3,140 meters). This site is a favorite among tourists, offering a magnificent panorama of the Himalayas at 360 degrees. On clear days in winter, the snow-capped peaks form a magnificent backdrop for the 108 pagodas of the Chhu La Pass, creating a breathtaking sight. Visiting the Drukgyal Dzong (known as the Temple of the Fourth King, Jimmi Sing Chhang Dzong), the details of which are rich and perfectly blend with the past and the future, tell the story of a brilliant warrior whose visionary foresight connected history with mythology. For tourists, this is an ideal place to photograph the magnificent views of the Himalayas, especially on clear, sunny days. After lunch and enjoying the cuisine at the Chimi Lama Cafe, you can leisurely walk for 25 minutes through picturesque terraced rice fields and farmhouses to visit the Chhu La Dzong. You can interact with the locals on the way. This temple was built in the 15th century by Lama Druppa Kunli (known for his title of “God-Madman”). The temple commemorates the story of his use of “God’s Lightning” to subdue a demoness. It is also known as the “Temple of Fertility,” a sacred place for those who seek the peace of their children. Next, visit the magnificent Phunka Chhu Fort, built in 1637. This historic fortress is located at the confluence of the Bo Chu River (male river) and the Mo Chu River (female river). The Phunka Chhu Fort is the second fortress built in the 1950s. Today, it serves as the government’s office. It is also the winter residence of the Rinpinpo and the Central Sangha. Then, enjoy the magnificent scenery and leisurely stroll along the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, the Bo Chu River Bridge. The bridge spans 160 meters and is over the Bo Chu River. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the Dasa Four-Star Boutique Resort in Punaka (B.L.D).
Day 5
Punakha/Gangtey (Phuongji Valley)/Duprong Son Fort/Gangte Temple
After breakfast at your hotel, embark on a scenic drive to Gangtey. Along the way, you will pass the charming Popigou Valley, renowned for its natural elegance and tranquility. The Wantungrong Monastery, built in 1638 and reconstructed after a devastating fire in 2011, retains its original architectural form. The monastery is located at the junction of the Moqtou River and the Sangtou River. Upon arrival, please settle in at your hotel first, then enjoy a leisurely lunch before embarking on an afternoon nature walk. Walk through this charming village, following the small paths winding through the valley, which crosses the valley and lies atop the western slopes of the Black Mountain. Every winter, the serene paradise welcomes elegant black-necked cranes, while the surrounding hills shelter abundant wildlife resources. As you walk at a brisk pace, the valley’s tranquility, its magnificent scenery, and the active wildlife around you will leave you in awe and establish a deep emotional connection with nature. You can also visit Gangte Temple and interact with the monks. Dine at the luxurious five-star Gangte Temple Hotel in Popigou Valley and spend the night there. (B.L.D)
Day 6
Gant/Perala Pass/Wandipran Fortress/Parota Son/Inpuk Son/Heton Estate
After breakfast, drive through the Pelera Pass (elevation 3390 meters) to Paro. This pass is an important dividing mountain range connecting western, central, and eastern Bhutan. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit the spectacular Wangdue Phodrang fortress. The castle was built in 1638 and after a devastating fire in 2011 was restored to its original design. It is located at the junction of the Mo Chhu and Sang Chhu rivers and is a prominent landmark on your journey. Then, drive to Paro. Visit the Bhutan National Museum known as Thangchhu. This building was built in 1649 and was originally built by the first governor of Paro as a watchtower. Later, in 1968, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk III transformed it into a museum. The museum houses a rich collection of artifacts, including clothing, jewelry, and specimens of Bhutan’s unique flora and fauna. Take a stroll to Rinpochu, known as the “heap of jewels.” This magnificent building was built by Zhabdenje Wangchhel in 1646 and was the center of administrative and religious power in the valley. It is considered the model for all other monasteries in Bhutan. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the luxurious five-star hotel The Hadon in the summit of Thangchhu in Paro (B.L.D).
Day 7
Tiger Nest Monastery Hiking / Bhutan's Oldest Kichulakhang Temple / Bangkok (KB 152: 1620/2030)
Before starting the day’s itinerary, enjoy a nutritious breakfast. Then, embark on a scenic journey to the location of the most famous Tiger Cave Temple (also known as the Tiger Nest Temple). This magnificent temple sits at an altitude of 2,600 meters, perched on a steep rock face overlooking a 900-meter-deep valley, offering breathtaking views. For those unable to complete the steep climb, you can hire a horse at your own expense to climb the mountain. The main temple was built in 1684 around the meditation cave of Guru Rinpoche, renowned for its excellent geographical location and exquisite architectural style. Legend has it that the 747th year when Buddhism was introduced to Bhutan was when the Venerable Padmasambhava, riding a flying tiger named “Dojodro”, arrived here. The magnificent views from this temple are unforgettable and make this journey incredibly worthwhile. You will have the opportunity to offer butter lamps in this sacred temple to offer merit to yourself and all living beings. You will also have the chance to interact with the abbot of Taktsang Monastery, and later experience traditional Bhutanese tea. Next, visit the sacred Kichulakhang Temple, one of the oldest and most revered temples in Bhutan. It was built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo as part of a grand project to build 108 temples in the Himalayan region within one day. Many historical temples can still be found in Tibet today. In the afternoon, drive to Paro International Airport, taking KB 152 direct to Bangkok. Arrive at 20:30, pick up your luggage and head to the hotel for check-in. Free time to enjoy the hotel’s facilities. (B.L)
Day 8
Bangkok- Koh Samui (PG135 12:00/ 13:31)
After breakfast, we will be transferred to the airport to check in for our flight to Koh Samui. Cha Weng Beach is located on the east coast of Koh Samui and is a crescent-shaped beach that is 7 kilometers long. It is the longest, busiest, and most famous beach on Koh Samui, with soft fine sand and the sea blending beautifully with it. There are plenty of water sports available everywhere, and various activities are full of adventure and excitement. You will have a very enjoyable holiday here. The Chaweng Night Market becomes a gathering place for tourists and a center of nightlife here every night. Free dinner (5* Amari Hotel Koh Samui or similar) (B.L)
Day 9
Sumai Island Quad-drive Off-road Vehicle Island Tour for a Day
After breakfast, we took a four-wheel drive tour around the island for a day trip. This is a very famous tourist activity in Koh Samui. Riding a four-wheel drive through the mountain roads, stopping at many places on the way, such as the Golden Buddha area and Ao Aun Stone and Ao Am Stone area, and also having the opportunity to ride elephants and see waterfalls. We can also enjoy traditional Thai lunch while riding elephants and watching waterfalls. After reaching the summit of Koh Samui at 680 meters, we have a whole day of activities. The return trip is around 16:00 and we will be sent back to the same hotel for a free dinner. (B.L)
Day 10
Lonlahk Speedboat Tour to Koh Tao and South Pond Island Half-Day Snorkeling Tour / Bangkok (PG186 19:30/20:45)
After breakfast, take a boat to Toi Island and Nan Yuan Island, which are the remote islands of Koh Samui. It is a must-visit place on Koh Samui, and is one of the best diving spots in the Gulf of Siam. Toi Island is far from the crowds, and the beautiful sandbar on Nan Yuan Island, which overlooks the sea, offers the most beautiful man-made beach. The return trip by speedboat takes 3 hours, and lunch is served at the beautiful Nan Yuan Island on a buffet. In the afternoon, we will be taken to the airport by an inland flight to Bangkok (B.L).
Day 11
I took a connecting flight from Bangkok back to Sydney, staying overnight on the flight.
