23-Day Ancient Silk Road Tour in Five Central Asian Countries

The five Central Asian countries are located in central Asia, bordering China to the east, Afghanistan to the south, the Caspian Sea to the west, and a vast area of Russia to the north. From the 17th century to the end of the 20th century, most of the region became part of the Soviet Union. Since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, there have been five former Soviet republics named "Stan", namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Some of them still retain their incredible ancient city appearance and cultural relics, especially Kiva, Samarkand and Bukhara in Uzbekistan, where you can experience the beautiful ancient architectural scenery and mysterious philosophy.

1.Kazakhstan It spans Europe and Asia, bordering the Caspian Sea to the west. It has a very large land area, ranking ninth in the world, and is one of the largest countries in Eurasia. The country's name is taken from its largest ethnic group, the Kazakhs. The Turkic Khanate was established from the 6th to the 8th century AD, and the Kazakh Khanate tribe was established at the end of the 15th century. Kazakhstan's economy is currently based on oil, natural gas, mining, coal, and agriculture and animal husbandry.

2.Uzbekistan Most of the country is located in the Kyzyl Kum Desert. The Khwarezmian Khanate was established in the 13th century and was later occupied by the Mongol Empire and incorporated into the Golden Horde and Chagatai Khanate. The Timurid dynasty was established in the 14th century. After declaring independence, it was renamed the Uzbek Republic.

3.Kyrgyzstan A landlocked country in Central Asia. It has a history of two thousand years, and has experienced changes of dynasties and occasional invasions and rule by foreign forces. However, because it is surrounded by mountains and is relatively isolated, the Kyrgyz culture has been well inherited. After independence from the Soviet Union, Kyrgyzstan's economy is now based on agriculture and animal husbandry. The main crops include wheat, cotton and tobacco. Wool, meat and dairy products are also major agricultural products.

4.*Turkmenistan It is second only to Kazakhstan in area. It is the second largest country in Central Asia. Most of Turkmenistan is lowland, with plains mostly below 200 meters above sea level. 80% of the territory is covered by the Karakum Desert, and most of the rest belongs to the Turan Lowland area that spans Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Turkmenistan has rich natural gas and oil resources, and the oil and gas industry is an important national industry. The main agricultural sectors are cotton and wheat planting. *Australian passports need to apply for entry permit 90 days in advance, and pay about USD$150 per person upon arrival at the border.

5.Tajikistan They are an ancient ethnic group in Central Asia. The area above 90% in their territory is mountainous. Located on the Pamir Plateau at an altitude of 3,000 meters, it is a holy place longed for by mountaineering enthusiasts from all over the world and is known as the "Mountain Country".

Ancient Silk Road: More than 2,000 years ago, Zhang Qian of the Han Dynasty made two diplomatic missions to the Western Regions, opening up the ancient Silk Road with the sound of camel bells and the clatter of horse hooves.Starting from Xi'an, China, the countries it passes through include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, the Caucasus region (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), Arabia, Greece, and Egypt. This long Silk Road is not only a source of human civilization, but also a place where cultures of China, Mongolia, India, Persia, Rome, Greece, Byzantium, Mesopotamia and Egypt meet and merge. [Central Asia] is not only the place where the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang passed through on his way to the Western Regions to seek Buddhist scriptures, but also the place where the Italian Marco Polo visited on his journey to the East. Alexander the Great conquered this place earlier in 329 BC, ending his eastward expedition. For more than two thousand years, some cities along the Silk Road remain prosperous and have preserved their original appearance; others have lost all their splendor, with only a few pieces of soil left.
